Fu Shi made this system so we can calculate what kind of phase we are in. The Trigrams are: Heaven, Lake, Fire, Thunder, Wind, Water, Mountain and Earth. The intervals of the phases are 7 years for women (0-6, 7-13, 14-20 etc) and 8 years for men (0-7, 8-15, 16-23 etc). When we reach the last trigram, Earth (49-55 for women, 56-63 for men) we revert back to the Heaven Trigram and our psyche does a kinda quantum jump. Our psyche gets reset from 0 and our body lives on as it was. So if you should meet a 63-69 year old woman or a 72-79 year old man and that person acts very childish, it is because in their psyche is 7-13 (women) and 8-15 (men) years old and they can act accordingly. Unfortunatly, many elders are viewed as an alzheimer person or have dementia when they have simply revert back to an youthfull age mentally and they might actually remember certain episodes so clearly that the bodily cells mimick the action of the event.
When and if you reach the Earth trigram for the second time (meaning you are 105-111 as a woman or 120-127 as a man) your psyche reverts back to the Heaven trigram when you shift trgrams, and then you embark on yet another cycle of the octogam. If you do live life according to the trigrams as they change and to those who are non-changingm it is said that you can live for a VERY long time, hundreds of years for example.
